Description

The dramatist Bhattanarayana who was a Vaishnav Brahmin originally belonged to Kanoj. This seems to be his only literary work. He was a master of the ?Kaku? style of poetic skill. He has shown a genuine perfection in the powerful expression of all qualities of poetry. Out of the main nine feelings like love, hatred, pity, etc. three have been wonderfully woven into this drama namely pathos, courage and obscene. The story of Venee Sanhar is based on the Mahabharata starting from the ?Udyogparva? to ?Shantiparva?. The ?Ranayadnya? or the ?Sacrifice of War? is enough to get an idea of the knowledge he possessed about the contemporary times. His philosophical insight is well revealed through the Sankhya, Yoga and Vedanta as well. He has successfully presented the powerful characters of the mighty Bheema and Ashvathama.

भट्टनारायण हा नाटककार कनोजचा अनूस वैष्णव ब्राम्हण होता. ही त्याची एकच साहित्यकृती असावी. काव्यामधील फकू या शैलीमध्ये हा णिष्णात होता. काव्याचे सर्व गुण त्याने प्रभावीपणे आणि परिपूर्णमतेने व्यक्त केले आहेत. लवभावांपैकी प्रेम द्वेष, आणि दया हे तीन भाव या नाटकात अद्‌भूत रीतीने गुंफले आहेत. या नाटकाची गोष्ट महाभारतातील उद्योग पर्वापासून शांती पर्वापर्यंत आहे. त्याकाळातील त्याच्या ज्ञानाची कल्पना आपल्याला रणाध्याय याप्रकरणावरून सहज येते. सांख्य, योग आणि वेदांत यांमधून त्यांची तत्वज्ञानात्मक दृष्टी कळून येते. बलशाली भीम आणि अश्वत थामा ही दोन कसदार पात्रे त्याने यशस्वीपणे रंगवली आहेत.
