Mrugpakshishastra

Description

This is a book containing information about animals and birds in the original Sanskrit written by Muni Hansdev from Mandak village as per the wishes of King Shauda. It is a matter of pride that such a book was prepared in India 800 years ago with the characteristics of Mrig means animal and bird. There are two parts to this book, Mrigapakshishastra. Descriptions of 127 animals are given in the first volume and 97 birds are given in the second volume, the information of animals and birds is collected in this book in thirty six categories. The sentiments of the original Sanskrit treatise on wildlife have been realized through the interesting style of the famous Vanamaharshi Maruti Chitampalli and P Narasimhashastri Bhatkhande in an easy-to-understand style that even the common reader can understand.

शौड राजाच्या इच्छेनुसार मंडक गावातील श्री हंसदेव यांनी रचलेला मूळ संस्कृतमधला पशुपक्ष्यांची माहिती देणारा हा ग्रंथ आहे. मृग म्हणजे पशू व पक्षी यांच्या वैशिष्ट्यांसह ८०० वर्षापूर्वीच्या काळात असा ग्रंथ भारतात तयार झाल हे अभिमानास्पद आहे. मृगपक्षिशास्त्र या ग्रंथाचे दोन भाग आहेत. पहिल्या खंडात १२७ पशूंची व दुसऱ्या खंडात ९७ पक्ष्यांची वर्णने दिली आहेत, या ग्रंथात छत्तीस श्रेणीमध्ये पशुपक्ष्यांच्या माहितीचे संकलन केले आहे. वन्यजीवनाची माहिती देणारे मूळ संस्कृत ग्रंथाचा भावानुवाद प्रख्यात वनमहर्षी मारुती चितमपल्ली, तसेच पी नरसिंहशास्त्री भातखंडे यांच्या रोचक शैलीतून सामान्य वाचकालाही समजेल अशा सहजसुंदर भाषाशैलीतून साकार झाले आहे.
