Description

The Satvahan King Haal collected these shlokas which give us the basic idea about the daily routine and culture of people about two thousand years ago. These compiled seven hundred gathas are known as Gatha Saptshati. People from all strata of society have contributed in their making. They reveal the geographical aspects along with the rural and urban living, family life, culture, religious, sexual and social aspects, political and economic life of the then India. They are like a huge canvas revealing the simple life with its intrinsic characteristics. They shed light on the culture along with the festivals, diet, dressing, sports, games, philosophy etc.

सातवाहन राजा हाल यांचे संकलित केलेल्या श्लोकांवरून आपल्याला २००० वर्षापूर्वीच्या लोकांची संस्कृती आणि त्यांच्या दैनंदिन जीवन याविषयी माहिती कळते. यामध्ये ७०० गाथा संकलित केलेल्या असल्याचे त्याला गाथासप्तशती हे नाव मिळाले. समाजातल्या सर्व थरातील लोकांचा या संकलनातील सहभाग आहे. या ग्रंथात तत्कालीन भारतातील ग्रामीण आणि नागरी राहणीमान, त्यांचे कौंटुबिक, धार्मिक, सामाजिक आणि लैंगिक जीवन यात उलगडलेले आहे. त्यांचेबरोबर भौगोलिक आणि राजकीय परिस्थितीचेही अवलोकन त्यात आहे. लोकांचे साधे जीवन आणि त्यांची अंतर्गत वैशिष्ट्ये उलगडून दाखवणारा हा एक महापटच आहे. यात तत्कालीन लोकांचे सण, उत्सव, पोशाख, खाणे, पिणे, क्रीडा आणि तत्वज्ञान या साऱ्यावरच प्रकाश टाकलेला आहे.
