The book Sri Durga Saptashati gets recited in many homes over the years. Swami Savitananda has revealed the secret of Saptashati in this. A monster is not a person, but an attitude. Rakshasa means lack of restraint, ungratefulness, selfish attitude and boundless ambition, violence, gluttony of sensual pleasures, propensity to transgress all kinds of limits and Prakriti and the destroyer of all these is a venerable Goddess who is praised by Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh. Tukaram says in his Abhanga, Night and day is the occasion of war for us. That is because temptations and illusions that happen to man are the occasions of war. We consider Bhagwati as ‘Mother’. She enlightens us about the illusions of the world of Maya, telling us that the true goal of life is union with the divine. श्री दुर्गा सप्तशती या ग्रंथाचे वर्षानुवर्षे अनेक घरात पारायण केले जाते. स्वामी सवितानंदांनी सप्तशतीचे रहस्य यात उलगडले आहे. राक्षस ही व्यक्ती नव्हे, तर वृत्ती आहे. आकार नाही कुसंस्कार आहे. राक्षस म्हणजे तर संयमाचा अभाव कृतघ्न, वृत्ती स्वार्थी व अमर्याद महत्त्वाकांक्षा, हिंसाचार, इंद्रिय भोगाची लोलुपता, सर्व तऱ्हेच्या मर्यादाभंगाची प्रवृत्ती व प्रकृती व या सर्वाचा संहार करणारी ती जगन्माता अशी वंदनीय की जिची ब्रह्मा, विष्णू, महेशही स्तुती करतात. तुकाराम आपल्या अभंगात म्हणतात, रात्रंदिन आम्हा युद्धाचा प्रसंग. ते यासाठी की मनुष्याला होणारे मोह, माया हे युद्धाचेच प्रसंग आहेत. ‘आई’ म्हणून आपण भगवतीला मानतो. ती आपल्यात मायारूपी जगातील मिथ्या गोष्टींचे ज्ञान देते, जीवनाचे खरे लक्ष्य परमात्यांचे मिलन हे सांगते. जीवा-शिवाची भेट म्हणजे काय त्याचे रहस्य आपल्यापर्यंत पोहोचविण्याचे काम संकलन, पुनर्लेखन, संपादन अत्यंत श्रद्धापूर्वक श्री स्वामीजींनी केले आहे
